Principles of forensic engineering applied to industrial accidents
An introductory text on the investigation of industrial accidents Forensic engineering should be seen as a rigorous approach to the discovery of root causes that lead to an accident or near-miss. The approach should be suitable to identify both the immediate causes as well as the underlying factors that affected, amplified, or modified the events in terms of consequences, evolution, dynamics, etc., as well as the contribution of an eventual human error . This book is a concise and introductory volume to the forensic engineering discipline which helps the reader to recognize the link among those important, very specialized aspects of the same problem in the global strategy of learning from accidents (or near-misses). The reader will benefit from a single point of access to this very large, technical literature that can be only correctly understood with the right terms, definitions, and links in mind. Keywords: Presents simple (real) cases, as well as giving an overview of more complex ones, each of them investigated within the same framework; Gives the readers the bibliography to access more in-depth specific aspects; Offers an overview of the most commonly used methodologies and techniques to investigate accidents, including the evidence that should be collected to define the cause, dynamics and responsibilities of an industrial accident, as well as the most appropriate methods to collect and preserve the evidence through an appropriate chain of security. Ingegneria Forense: metodologie, protocolli, casi studio
In the book "Ingegneria Forense", published by Dario Flaccovio Editore (October 2011, ISBN 9788857901015) and edited by Prof. Bernardino M. Chiaia (vice-chancellor of the Politecnico di Torino) and by Prof. Nicola Augenti (University of Naples and president of the Italian Association of Forensic Engineering) there is a chapter entitled "Fires and explosions" (elaborated by Luca Fiorentini (TECSA SpA), Norberto Piccinini and Luca Marmo (Polytechnic of Turin), F. Vinardi) with the following contents: incidental scenarios , fires, explosions, deflagrations and detonations, VCE / UVCE, pool fires, jet fires, flash-fires, incidental trials, gathering of evidence and sources of evidence, information from witnesses, physical and chemical sources, documentary evidence, documentation in electronic format and binary, identification of initiatory causes, significant cases of investigation. The text proposes contributions from some of the leading national experts in the field of Forensic Engineering, developing the basic engineering protocols and methodologies in the field of civil, criminal and administrative technical consultancy. Investigates and deepens incidents of engineering solved in the forum, proposing itself as a fundamental manual for professionals in the field, magistrates, lawyers, architects, structural engineers and geotechnical. The purpose of the work is to stimulate all the colleagues working in the field of judicial technical consultancy to cultivate and deepen, in an organic way, themes that for too long have been entrusted to individualism and improvisation.
Wiley Encyclopedia of Forensic Science
The chapter entitled "Forensic investigation and engineering of fires and explosions" by L. Fiorentini, L. Marmo and N. Piccinini present in the first Italian book on Forensic Engineering ("Forensic Engineering, Methodologies, Protocols, Case Studies" edited by B. Chiaia and N. Augenti, Dario Flaccovio Editore) was recently quoted and referenced in the most authoritative compendium at the international level in the field of forensic science, namely the "Wiley Encyclopedia of Forensic Science" consisting of five volumes for a total of about 4000 pages all dedicated to the sciences and to the forensic engineering activities. Marmo, Fiorentini and Chiaia are among the founders of the TECSA S.r.l. dedicated to these aspects and called MFCforensic.
Strutture resistenti al fuoco. Metodi di calcolo, tecnologie e procedure per una concreta sicurezza strutturale all’incendio
Prof. Bernardino Chiaia (Vice-Rector of the Polytechnic of Turin), founder of the engineering division for TECSA S.r.l. (MFCforensic) and international expert on seismic vulnerability and construction science, has collaborated in the drafting of the new volume of EPC S.r.l. entitled "STRUCTURE RESISTANT TO FIRE. Calculation methods, technologies and procedures for a concrete fire safety "(EPC S.r.l., Rome, 2017, ISBN 978-88-6310-792-0). The volume, realized with the contribution of ATE - Associazione Tecnologi per l'Edilizia, was edited by Pietro G. Gambarova, Alessandro Fantilli and Sergio Tattoni. The authors include some of the most important Italian fire resistance experts from the academy, professions and industry. The objective is to provide professionals, researchers, industry technicians, certification bodies experts and contracting stations with a streamlined and immediate use tool, complete with physical-mechanical bases, regulatory references and examples. Prof. Chiaia has curated, together with Prof. Fantilli, the chapter "Design and verification of masonry structures on fire".
